Qld: Ex-cricketer charged over super fraud

BRISBANE, Aug 22 AAP - Veteran Queensland cricket allrounder Brett Henschell is among12 people charged over an alleged multi-million dollar superannuation fund fraud.
Henschell, who played 66 first-class and 22 limited-overs matches during his career,was arrested yesterday in the wake of a lengthy Queensland police investigation and CommonwealthBank audit.
The 42-year-old from the western Brisbane suburb of Brookfield is accused of dishonestlygaining more than $520,000 between October 1996 and December 2002 while working as a financialcontroller in the Commonwealth Bank's financial services section.
The alleged fraud was uncovered after an internal audit by the bank last June.
Police have arrested a group of 12 policyholders accused of taking up to $1.2 million.
Several of the accused, including a husband and wife, faced Brisbane's MagistratesCourt this week.
Henschell is not expected to face court until late September.
It is alleged the scam involved back dating forms used to switch money between severalsuperannuation funds on the stock market.
The fund's trustees were Commonwealth Custodial Services Limited (CCSL) and ColonialMutual Life Assurance Pty Ltd.
The offences allegedly occurred at the Commonwealth Bank processing centre in New South Wales.
